What's new

What changed in Forkmate.

New features, improvements, fixes, and tools added to or removed from your AI app, newest first. Changes to our privacy policy and terms are dated on those pages. What we plan next is on the roadmap.

  1. Your words, from your AI app

    • Improved
    • Improved: meals logged from your AI app keep how you described them, so we can check the numbers. When your words name an amount (“a pint”, “half a pound”) and the app sent a different one for a food Forkmate prices itself, your amount is used.
  2. Earlier AI meals, in your chat

    • Improved
    • Improved: your chat now shows meals your AI apps added earlier. Meals an app logged before your chat showed them now appear on their own day, at their own time, marked “From your history”. A day with meals from an app also says so at the top, and tapping that line takes you to them.
  3. Averages that count whole days

    • Improved
    • Improved: averages leave out today and days that look partly logged. When you ask Forky for an average, or look at the week chart, a day with very little logged no longer pulls the number down, and Forky tells you which days were left out.
  4. Your AI app's meals, in your chat

    • New
    • New: meals your AI app logs now show up in your chat, with who added them. Each app gets its own colour, like a group chat, and you can change or remove the meal right there. If the app passed on how you described it, your words show too. Changes and removals your app makes appear the same way, and with the app open they arrive without a reload.
  5. Better with drinks, beer and packaged foods

    • Improved
    • New
    • Fixed
    • Drinks that add up. Sodas by brand, beer, wine, spirits and hard seltzer are in the food list. A can is 12 oz, a pint is 16 oz, and a beer at a bar or on tap is a pint unless you say otherwise.
    • Cocktails. A margarita, a mojito or a long island iced tea is counted as a mixed drink, labelled as an estimate, and never as plain iced tea.
    • Restaurant portions. An unsized burger at a sit-down restaurant is a half-pound burger, and a side of fries is a restaurant side. A big late meal is dinner, not a snack.
    • Wings, craft beer and more portions. Buffalo and other sauced wings count as fried wings with their sauce on its own line, and an order of wings with no count is 10 (8 boneless). A plain stout or porter counts as a craft one, imperial stouts and double IPAs have their own figures, and a strong beer at a bar is a 12 oz pour, not a pint. A burrito at a fast-casual spot, a diner’s pancakes, small or large fries, a footlong and a bowl of pasta get typical portions, each labelled as an estimate.
    • Counts and sizes are kept. “3 large shrimp”, “5 small potatoes”, “half an ear of corn” and “a large lemonade” now count what you said, instead of one standard serving. A meal is no longer set aside because one detail in it was too long.
    • Packaged foods. Branded and packaged products use their own published figures instead of a generic match.
    • A newer AI model now reads your meals, and a stronger one looks up restaurant nutrition.
    • Status in the app. Settings → Status shows whether Forkmate is working, and a small banner appears in your diary if something is slow or down.
    • Undo on the card. After Log it, Remove or Cancel, Undo now sits right on the meal card (or beside your crossed-out message) for a few seconds, instead of a bar at the bottom of the chat that pushed everything up and down.
    • Fixed: “fish and chips” is no longer a bag of potato chips. When the AI’s reading of a meal arrives after the quick one, it now replaces it. On a computer, the panels fill the window again. Scan barcode is in the “+” menu from your first visit. “Two Bud Lights” no longer counts as regular beer, “a few strawberries” counts the berries instead of a whole cup, and “eggs” with no number is two.
  6. Keys for local AI apps, and safer connections

    • New
    • Improved
    • New: keys for local AI apps. Coding tools and other AI apps that run on your computer now connect with a key you make in Settings → AI apps → Keys for local apps. Name it after the app, pick when it expires (a year unless you choose otherwise), and copy it once: the setup for your app is shown with the key filled in. Each key shows when it was last used, and you can revoke it any time. Deleting your account or withdrawing consent revokes every key. Steps for each app are at forkmate.ai/connect/keys.
    • Improved: only approved AI apps can connect. Forkmate now checks which app is asking before it reads or saves anything in your diary, by where the app really lives rather than the name it gives itself. The AI apps people already use on the web keep working. From October 16, an app Forkmate hasn’t approved gets a short note saying so instead of your diary, and apps on your computer need a key.
    • Where each app lives. Settings → AI apps → Your assistants now shows the web address each connected app signs in from, so a friendly name can’t hide an app you don’t recognise.
  7. A new look: your diary is a chat

    • New
    • Improved
    • Removed
    • Each day is a conversation. Type what you ate and see what was read. A past day reopens just as you left it.
    • Change your mind. Cancel a message you didn’t mean to send before it’s logged, and change or remove any logged meal from its card or from the day’s meal list.
    • Room on a big screen. On a computer, your days, the chat and your totals sit side by side.
    • Notifications. A bell collects fixes to things you reported and news like this. Your AI app can read them too, with the new get_notifications tool.
    • More ways to log, one tap away. Scan barcode, Search foods and My recipes live behind the “+” next to the chat box.
    • A fresh Settings. It’s grouped into you, AI apps, the app and your account. It shows when each AI app last used Forkmate.
    • Import from MyFitnessPal, simpler. Upload the password-protected zip that MyFitnessPal emails you, as it arrives, or the CSV inside it. Your calories and macros come over exactly as you logged them.
    • Caffeine and fluids are back in your day’s totals.
    • Removed: the old design, for everyone. The garden is gone too; Calm mode stays.
  8. Get started and send feedback from your AI app

    • New
    • Agree inside the chat. If you haven’t agreed yet, the first time you log from an AI app it asks whether you agree to Forkmate storing your health-related data. Reply yes in the chat and the meal you were logging goes straight in. A new tool, give_consent, records it.
    • Tell us what’s wrong. Ask your AI app to send Forkmate a bug, an idea or a note with the new send_feedback tool, or use Settings → Feedback in the app. We read every note.
  9. Sign up in the app, then log

    • Improved
    • New
    • Faster sign-up. Create your account right in the app: continue with Google, or use your email and a password. One sign-up, one consent screen, and then you’re at the chat box.
    • See your connected AI apps. Settings shows each AI app you’ve linked to Forkmate and what it can do, and you can disconnect any of them.
  10. Smarter meal reading, restaurants and saved recipes

    • New
    • Say it your way. Type “a turkey sandwich and a small coffee with milk” and an AI model reads it into foods and amounts. You see what was read, and you can change it or undo it.
    • Restaurant meals, by the restaurant’s numbers. When a restaurant publishes its nutrition, Forkmate uses those figures and says where they came from.
    • Saved recipes. After you log a homemade meal with two or more foods, choose “Save as recipe”. Next time, type “a bowl of my chili”, even inside a longer meal like “my chili and a beer”.
    • Scan a barcode. Your camera reads the barcode on your device, or you can type the number.
  11. Your AI app learns your food profile

    • New
    • Removed
    • A food profile instead of a pantry. Tell your AI app what you like, what you don’t, any allergies and your diet style, and Forkmate keeps it for next time. Two new tools do this: update_preferences and get_usual_foods, which knows the foods you eat most and what you had in the last seven days.
    • No more twenty questions. When you name a food without an amount, your AI app logs a typical portion, says it guessed, and lets you change the size.
    • Removed: the pantry tools get_pantry, add_pantry_item and remove_pantry_item. Your food profile does their job.
  12. Add Forkmate to your home screen

    • New
    • Improved
    • Install it like an app. Open app.forkmate.ai on your phone or computer and add it to your home screen or dock. It opens in its own window, with no app store needed.
    • Ready-made prompts in your AI app. Where your AI app shows prompts, Forkmate now offers six: log a meal, log a photo of your plate, today so far, review my week, hit my protein, and import from MyFitnessPal.
    • Safer goals for teens. Nobody under 18 is offered a weight-loss calorie target.
