Claude Code, Cursor and other apps on your computer
Keys for local apps
AI apps that run on your computer, like Claude Code, Cursor’s desktop app, VS Code and other coding tools, can’t sign in to Forkmate the way web apps do. You give each one a key instead: make it in Forkmate’s settings, add it to the app’s MCP config as a header, and the app can read and log meals in your diary.
Make a key first. Keys are made in your Forkmate settings and shown once. Make a key in Forkmate
No Forkmate account yet? Create one free first. It takes under a minute. You make your key there.
Set up Forkmate in Keys for local apps
https://mcp.forkmate.ai/- Make a keyOpen Settings → Keys for local apps in Forkmate (
https://app.forkmate.ai/#keys). Name the key after the app, pick when it expires (1 year by default, or 30 days, 90 days or never) and click Make key. - Copy it nowThe key starts with fmk_ and is about 70 characters long. Forkmate shows it once and keeps only a fingerprint of it, so copy it before you close the panel.
- Add Forkmate with the headerIn your app, add a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) with the URL
https://mcp.forkmate.ai/and the headerAuthorization: Bearer fmk_your_key_here, your key in place of the placeholder. Leave any OAuth or sign-in fields empty. - Give your OK onceThe first time you log, Forkmate asks once for your OK to store your food diary. Agree the way it asks, in the chat or through the link it gives you to agree on the web, then log the meal again if it wasn’t saved.
- Log your first mealIn your app, say “I had two eggs and toast for breakfast.” It logs the meal with calories and macros to your Forkmate diary.

What you need
- A free Forkmate account (sign up). There is no paid plan.
- A key is for apps that run on your computer. Claude (on the web, Desktop and mobile), ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity connect with a sign-in and don’t need one.
Checked against these sources: Claude Code docs: MCP, Cursor docs: MCP, mcp-remote README. SDKs move fast; check the version you install.
What to say first
Talk to your app the way you’d tell a friend:
- “I had two eggs and toast for breakfast.”
- “How many calories have I had today?”
- “Make the toast two slices.”
- “What did I eat this week?”
It logs the meal with calories, protein, carbs and fat to your diary at app.forkmate.ai.
What a key can do
- A key reads and logs meals in your diary, like a connected app. It works only with Forkmate’s MCP server: it can’t open the web app, and it can’t make or revoke keys.
- Read-only keys may come later. For now every key can read and log.
- Logging still needs your one-time OK to store your food diary, the same as any app.
Keep it safe
- Treat a key like a password: anyone who has it can read and log meals in your diary.
- Keep it out of shared files, repos and chats. Where your app can read the key from an environment variable or ask for it (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Devin Desktop), do that instead of pasting it into a config file.
- Make one key per app, so you can revoke one without touching the others. You can have up to 20.
Expiry, revoking and last used
- A key stops working when it expires: after 30 days, 90 days, 1 year (the default), or never, as you chose.
- Settings → Keys for local apps lists your keys by name and last four characters, with when each was made, when it expires and when it was last used.
- Revoke a key there and apps using it can’t reach your diary any more. Make a new one to reconnect.
- Withdrawing your consent to store health data, or deleting your account, revokes every key.
