Switching from MyFitnessPal

Bring your MyFitnessPal history with you

Leaving MyFitnessPal doesn’t mean leaving your data behind. Export your food diary, paste one prompt into your AI assistant, and Forkmate backfills your calories and macros — kept exactly as you logged them. No re-typing, no starting from zero.

Free to start · works with Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client · your numbers stay your numbers.

Step 1

Export your data from MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal gives you a free copy of your diary with “Download My Data.” It’s a quick request — then you wait for the email.

1

Open MyFitnessPal on a desktop browser

The data export lives on the website, not the phone app. Sign in at myfitnesspal.com on a computer.

2

Go to your Privacy Center → Download My Data

Under your account settings, find “Download My Data” (the free GDPR export). Request your data — you don’t need a paid plan.

3

Grab the download link and the password

MyFitnessPal emails you a download link when your ZIP is ready (usually under an hour, up to a day — the link expires after 7 days). For your security the data file is password-protected, and the password is sent separately as an in-app message inside MyFitnessPal — so check both.

4

Your export is one password-protected file

Heads-up: the free export isn’t loose CSVs — it’s a ZIP containing a password-protected workbook with your whole history (food, exercise, measurements) inside. A one-click importer that opens this file for you — unlocking and reading it right in your browser, so your password and file never leave your device — is in final safety review and coming soon. In the meantime, you can bring your history over today with the AI-assisted prompt below.

Heads up: the export is desktop-only, the email can take up to ~24 hours, and the download link expires after 7 days. Once it arrives, save the ZIP somewhere handy.

Step 2

Connect Forkmate to your AI assistant

Create your free Forkmate account and connect it to Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-capable assistant with one secure OAuth connection. That’s what gives your assistant permission to log meals into your diary.

Step 3

Paste this prompt into your assistant

Attach or point your assistant at your .xlsx export workbook, paste the prompt below, and let it backfill your diary. It reads your food rows and logs them through Forkmate — your numbers, kept as you logged them.

MyFitnessPal → Forkmate import prompt
You're helping me migrate my food history from MyFitnessPal into Forkmate. I've connected Forkmate to you as an MCP tool, and I have my MyFitnessPal "Download My Data" export.

Read my MyFitnessPal food diary export and replay it into Forkmate using the log_meal tool. Each food row is one food I logged.

Rules:
1. For each FOOD row, figure out its columns by meaning: the date, the meal, the food name, the amount/serving, and the four macros — calories, carbohydrates, fat, and protein.
2. Call log_meal with:
   - local_date = the row's date as YYYY-MM-DD
   - meal = map the row's meal to one of: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, other. (MyFitnessPal "Snacks" → snack; anything unusual → other.)
   - one item per food: name = the food name, quantity = the amount/serving if there is one, and macros = the CSV's OWN numbers: { kcal, carb_g, fat_g, protein_g }.
3. Use MyFitnessPal's macro numbers verbatim. ALWAYS pass all four so Forkmate keeps my logged values and does NOT re-estimate them. Do not look foods up or guess — every macro comes straight from my CSV.
4. Batch up to 50 items per log_meal call (one call per date + meal is ideal). Go in date order, oldest first, and pace the calls — don't fire hundreds at once.
5. SKIP exercise, cardio, water, and measurement rows — those aren't food (in the export they're tagged as a different type). Only log the food rows.
6. For a "Quick Add" row (just calories, no real food name), log a single item named "Quick add" with ONLY the kcal value — do not invent 0g protein, carbs, or fat.
7. When you're done, tell me how many meals and how many days you imported.

Big history? Your assistant paces the work — up to 50 foods per logging step, oldest day first. Let it run and check your diary as it fills in.

Already have a food_diary.csv?

Upload it in the guided importer

Got a plain food_diary.csv already — from MyFitnessPal Premium’s CSV export, or one your AI assistant pulled out of your export? Open Forkmate, chooseImport from MyFitnessPal from your diary, and upload it. You’ll see exactly what will import — date range, meals, days — and confirm before anything is saved. Re-importing later never creates duplicates — we update in place — and we never ask for your MyFitnessPal account password or login credentials. The free MyFitnessPal export is a password-protected workbook rather than a plain CSV, so a one-click importer that opens and unlocks the whole export for you — right in your browser, nothing leaving your device — is in final safety review and coming soon.

A few honest notes

We’d rather you know exactly what to expect than be surprised later.

Run the prompt once

The AI-prompt path is a one-shot backfill — running the prompt twice logs every meal twice. If you already have a food_diary.csv and want a re-runnable import instead, the guided uploader above uses a deduplication key, so re-importing never creates duplicates.

Your numbers, kept honest

We transfer MyFitnessPal’s calories and macros exactly as you logged them — we don’t re-estimate your history. Imported entries are tagged as coming from your AI client, so your record stays auditable.

Your full history comes with you

Everything imports — every meal, however far back it goes — and nothing is dropped or trimmed on the way in. Your whole imported timeline shows up in the diary, it’s all kept, and it’s yours to export for free.
