Custom apps, US personal accounts

Use Forkmate in Gemini

The Gemini app can connect to an MCP server as a custom app. Add Forkmate once on a computer and use it from Gemini on the web, iPhone or Android.

Step one: copy Forkmate’s server URL
https://mcp.forkmate.ai/

Then paste it into Gemini (steps below). No API key: you sign in once. Open gemini.google.com

No Forkmate account yet? Create one free first. It takes under a minute, and Gemini sends you there on first connect anyway.

Set up Forkmate in Gemini

  1. Open Connected AppsOn gemini.google.com on a computer, click Settings → Connected Apps. If you don’t see Connected Apps, click Personal Intelligence first.
  2. Add a custom appUnder Custom apps, paste https://mcp.forkmate.ai/ into the Add a custom app field (or click Add a custom app if you’ve added one before) and click Next. Leave Advanced features alone: Forkmate registers Gemini on its own.
  3. Sign in to Forkmate onceGemini opens a Forkmate sign-in in your browser. Sign in (or create your free account) and approve access. That one-time OAuth step connects it to your diary and nobody else’s.
  4. Give your OK onceThe first time you log, Forkmate asks once for your OK to store your food diary. Agree the way it asks, in the chat or through the link it gives you to agree on the web, then log the meal again if it wasn’t saved.
  5. Log your first mealIn Gemini (type @ and pick Forkmate, then confirm when Gemini asks before saving), say “I had two eggs and toast for breakfast.” It logs the meal with calories and macros to your Forkmate diary.

What you need

  • A free Forkmate account (sign up). There is no paid plan.
  • Google lists these requirements: 18 or over, in the US, signed in with a personal Google Account (not work or school), Keep Activity on, and English.
  • You add custom apps on gemini.google.com on a computer; they then work in the Gemini apps for iOS and Android.
  • Google’s page names no subscription requirement. If you don’t see Custom apps, your account doesn’t have it yet.

Checked against the vendor’s documentation: Gemini Apps Help: custom apps. Gemini changes its menus often; if yours looks different, trust what it shows.

What to say first

Talk to Gemini the way you’d tell a friend:

  • “I had two eggs and toast for breakfast.”
  • “How many calories have I had today?”
  • “Make the toast two slices.”
  • “What did I eat this week?”

It logs the meal with calories, protein, carbs and fat to your diary at app.forkmate.ai.

Good to know in Gemini

  • Gemini asks you to confirm every write, so you approve each meal before it’s logged.
  • Turning Forkmate off doesn’t remove it from Connected Apps; remove it there if you want it gone. To reconnect, link the server URL again.

Forkmate shortcuts

Forkmate comes with ready-made requests for the everyday jobs: log a meal, fix the last entry, see what’s left today, log your usual, hit your protein, a weekly check-in. We haven’t found MCP shortcuts (prompts) in Gemini’s menus or documentation, so type or paste the request instead.

  • Log a meal (log-meal)
“Log this to my Forkmate diary: two eggs and toast with butter”
  • Fix my last entry (fix-last-entry)
“Fix the last thing I logged in Forkmate: it was 2 eggs, not 3”
  • What's left today (today-so-far)
“Show me today so far in Forkmate: my calories, protein, carbs and fat.”
  • Log my usual (log-my-usual)
“Log my usual breakfast to Forkmate.”
  • Hit my protein today (hit-protein)
“How much protein have I had today in Forkmate, and how far am I from my target of 120 g? Suggest a few foods for my remaining meals and snacks that would close the gap, using my food profile and the foods I usually eat.”
  • Weekly check-in (week-review)
“Give me a check-in on my last 7 days in Forkmate (get_range): calories, protein, carbs and fat per day and on average, how many days I logged, and the foods I ate most.”
  • Move my MyFitnessPal history (import-myfitnesspal)
“How do I move my food diary history from MyFitnessPal to Forkmate? Walk me through exporting my data for free and importing it with the guided importer described at https://forkmate.ai/migrate-from-myfitnesspal/. Don't log anything yet.”

Shortcut or not, Forkmate sends Gemini the same logging rules when it connects: log your own words, keep your amounts, and look foods up before estimating.

Fueling for a run or ride

Forkmate doesn’t sync with Strava or Garmin. Describe the session and Gemini reads your food from Forkmate:

  • Help me fuel for a PR on my local route. It usually takes me about 50 minutes, with a few short climbs. Read my Forkmate diary for the last week, then give me a before, during and after plan. Ask me what you need first.
  • How have I been eating, and how should I fuel for a 10K? Read the last 14 days of my Forkmate diary. I run about four times a week and my 10K is in three weeks. Ask me anything else you need.
  • What should I eat before, during and after my long ride? It's about 3 hours at a moderate pace. Read what I've eaten the last three days in Forkmate, and ask me what you need first.
