# Use Forkmate in ChatGPT

ChatGPT can add your own MCP server as an app once Developer mode is on. Do that once and ChatGPT can log your meals to a Forkmate diary you can open anywhere.

No Forkmate account yet? [Create one free](https://app.forkmate.ai/) first. It takes under a minute, and ChatGPT sends you there on first connect anyway.

## Set up Forkmate in ChatGPT

Forkmate’s server URL. Streamable HTTP, OAuth sign-in, no API key.

1. Turn on Developer mode

In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode. On Business, Enterprise and Edu an admin may need to allow it first.
2. Create the app

Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, select the + button, name it Forkmate, and under Connection enter `https://mcp.forkmate.ai/`. Then create it.
3. Sign in to Forkmate once

ChatGPT opens a Forkmate sign-in in your browser. Sign in (or create your free account) and approve access. That one-time OAuth step connects it to your diary and nobody else’s.
4. Turn it on in a chat

Start a new chat, open the + menu, and add Forkmate from Developer mode.
5. Log your first meal

In that chat, say “I had two eggs and toast for breakfast.” It logs the meal with calories and macros to your Forkmate diary.

## What you need

- A free Forkmate account ([sign up](https://app.forkmate.ai/)). There is no paid plan.
- OpenAI lists Developer mode for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts, on the web only. Free and Go are not on that list.
- Forkmate needs write actions to log a meal. OpenAI’s help centre has described write access differently by plan, so check what yours allows. ChatGPT asks you to confirm each write by default.
- If your plan can’t add a custom app that writes, Claude’s Free plan includes one custom connector.

Checked September 30, 2026 against these sources: [OpenAI: Developer mode](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/developer-mode), [OpenAI: connect a server to ChatGPT](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/deploy/connect-chatgpt), [OpenAI help: Developer mode and MCP apps](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12584461-developer-mode-and-mcp-apps-in-chatgpt). ChatGPT changes its menus often; if yours looks different, trust what it shows.

## What to say first

Once it’s connected, talk to ChatGPT the way you’d tell a friend:

> I had two eggs and toast for breakfast.

It logs the meal with calories, protein, carbs and fat to your diary at app.forkmate.ai. Then try:

- How many calories have I had today?
- Make the toast two slices.
- What did I eat this week?

Something not working? See [troubleshooting](https://forkmate.ai/connect/#troubleshooting), or [pick a different assistant](https://forkmate.ai/connect/). The same URL works in all of them.

## Start logging from ChatGPT

Create your free account, connect once, and your next meal is one sentence away. No card, no paid plan.
